Core Upgrade Fails on Database Upgrade

Problem:

Upgrading to 9.5 from 9.0 SP3 results in error upgrading database if a non-standard port is specified in the connection string.

Upgrading to 9.6 from 9.5 results in error upgrading database if a non-standard port is specified in the connection string.

Error is:  [DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen (Connect()).] "Sql Server does not exist or access denied" "Invalid Connection String"

When the upgrade is first initiated, the connection string shows the specified port you have defined, and the test is successful.  Once you start the install and it gets to the point where it is starting the database upgrade and the LDMS services begin to stop, you check the registry connection string key (HKLM\Software\WOW6432Node\LANDesk\ManagementSuite\Core\Connections\local) and the port number is gone from the 'Server' key.

Resolution:

1. You will have to stop the install at this point, as you have received the error.  Add the Port (,XXXX) back to the Server key in the registry. Run the install again, it should pick up where it left off and make the connection to the database on the defined port and finish the upgrade.

     a. For 9.0 sp3 to 9.5 - HKLM\software\wow6432node\landesk\managementsuite\core\connections\local

     b. for 9.5 to 9.6 - HKLM\software\landesk\managementsuite\core\connections\local

2. If you already know about this prior to starting a new upgrade, you add the Port (,XXXX) back to the Server key while the LDMS services are stopping and the install will run without any problems.
