Description: On Windows 2008 the COM+ objects may occasionally fail to shut down or start up. This issue causes problems with several components. Some examples: Remote Control (Integrated Security) may not authenticate, the Web Console may produce (unable to validate) messages, etc.

Example Error Messages:

If you attempt to stop the COM+ object(s) you get the following error: (Error code 80004002 - No such interface supported)

If you attempt to start the COM+ object(s) you get the following error: (Error code 80004005 - Unspecified Error)

Cause: Windows 2008 forcefully unloads a users registry when they log off. Applications may have links into the registry which are then forcefully unloaded. Testing so far has shown that this doesn't need to be the user specified in COM+ to experience problems.

Resolution: A link to the resolution is listed below. To summarize...this is a simple change to the local security policy to keep registries active until all application hooks are finished.
